Op shop treasures

I'm building a new little collection.
I think it's a kind of progression from my love of vintage souvenir tea towels.
A trip to the op shops of Geelong on Monday turned up some new souvenir tea spoons that I just had to buy.
I'm having to be a bit strict with myself, otherwise there'll be hundreds of them before I know it!
But, these ones were just too lovely to leave behind.

Mid-winter Saturday

A couple of pictures of the beautiful Northcote Town Hall in a quiet moment yesterday.
I had a great day yesterday, lots of people through, lovely sunshine streaming into the hall, hot chips for lunch!
I did lose communication with my cold feet in the afternoon, and have vowed to wear my boots next week. I forget that it really is the middle of Winter.
Don't let a sunny day fool you!

Winter Artisans' Market part 2

Gosh, the end of the week has rolled around quickly.
Tomorrow will see me packing the car with goodies again, and heading up to town for week 2 of the Winter Artisans' Markets.
This week my city holiday will include a film - Mother and Child - and a seafood Laksa with friends!
Last week's market had great music, and food, and fabulous goods, all in the beautiful Northcote Town Hall.
Why not come and pay us a visit?

Sneaking in

A new place to buy Frankie & Ray neckscarves snuck into my list of stockists last week.
The Little Shop of Handmade in Carnegie asked very nicely, and I'm pleased to offer the folks on the south east side of town some woolly goodies!
This is one of a batch sent off today, made from the irresistable vintage wool I picked up at L'uccello last week, looks like there's a bit of pink finding it's way into my work....

Melbourne is marvellous

Can you believe I hadn't been to the city for 12 months?
For a girl who used to work in town, this seems incredible.
I had a whole day, by myself, in there on Friday.
What joy!

A visit to see the Craft Victoria window by Gaye.
A not so stunning photo, but definitely a stunning display of winter woolly goodness by Body Parts.

Walking down Collins Street, I was stopped in my tracks by this window display at Hermes.
Now, you can take the girl out of the Library....
Yes, for many years that was my profession!

A visit to Buttonmania for these beautiful treasures, and a long and lovely chat with Kate.
A tip for you.....the famous Buttonmania sale starts tomorrow and goes for a whole week.
In the Nicholas Building, up the stairs to level 2.

And right next door has opened this little shop of swoon inducing vintage haberdashery.
I came away with some beautiful vintage yarn - think vaguely '70s - being knitted up into scarves and cosies right now!
Go and pay L'uccello a visit, you won't escape without a little purchase.

And finally, a pair of red suede ballet flats for me, because, well, you know, they'll be so practical here in the country where it rains a lot, and our street is a dirt road!

Winter markets

From one market to another!
For the next 4 Saturdays you'll find me snug and warm in the beautiful surrounds of the Northcote Town Hall for the Winter Artisans' Markets.
It's great to have the opportunity to be inside and out of the miserable weather at this time of year. I'm looking forward to browsing some gorgeous handmade goodies, eating hot jam donuts with Pia, who'll be there as well, and spending some time in the city after my little break from travelling!

All over, red rover!

Another Queen's Birthday weekend has come and nearly gone.
Market day was great!
We had a really good crowd come along to admire everyone's beautiful things, the Hall looked lovely, the kitchen turned out the best soups, hot savoury treats, coffee, tea, and cakes, and even the notoriously bad Winter Apollo Bay weather co-operated by not raining!
A special thank you goes out to all the Melbourne girls who made the trek down the coast, it wouldn't have been the same without you.
Special mention to my friend Pia, who fearlessly climbed a very tall ladder more than once to hang bunting inside and out, helped with the kitchen and hall decoration, and then stayed to take it all down again this morning!

I can't wait to do it all again next year...

Two more sleeps...

Jayne, Pia and I have been at the lovely old hall today making everything gorgeous for Sunday's market!
What better way to spend a Winter's weekend that to visit us down here on the coast?
See you here!

On the road

Crikey it's cold today!
A good day for the Winter Indoor Market public relations team (me!) to head off around the coast dropping off posters to the stores at Kennett River, Wye River, and Flying Fishes at Lorne.

Lucky the General at Wye River had the fire roaring and everything cosy.
They make the best coffee, the staff are friendly and always ready for a chat.

Last stop was Lorne, and another opportunity to admire Liz's fine touch with a window display at Flying Fishes.
I love the way she's used those vintage prints, and books, and all the colours echo everything there. Delicious!
One day closer to market day, so far everything's going to plan!

Bellissima!

A little bit of Frankie & Ray recently visited Rome with lovely Julie and her equally gorgeous friend Carmel.
Sigh.
Apparently if you throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain, you are bound to return.
Girls, I hope you get back again very soon!

Good sewing weather

A wet and cold day made for good sewing yesterday!
This....

Became this...

And this....

Is now this...

Am I hankering for Spring before Winter has properly begun with all these florals do you think?

Jumper love circa 1980?

I love this picture!
Her bloke is so grateful for his lovely new blue jumper, he's bought her a string of pearls!
How about that his and her's pattern?
Oh! Perhaps it should be his'n'hers...
I think I'm having a Kath and Kel Day-Night moment...
Oh, and there's plenty more to look at where this one came from.
A big thanks to Fiona over at SquirtBaby for the link!
